I am interested in the interplay of color and its manipulation through the process of layering and increasing or decreasing the body of paint. My work explores the relationships among colors and the unanticipated forms that emerge from their interaction. Color leads me to investigate shape and texture and engage with the playfulness and depth of those elements.
I typically paint in layers and in stages, using acrylic as a base layer and oil stick to the top layer, allowing for the gloss and thickness of the oil paint to contrast with the flatter, smoother acrylic layer, bringing forth the movement of color and texture. What starts out as my instinct to create harmony between color, shape and texture becomes an abstract landscape, an emotion embedded within the painting itself.
I paint because I have always needed to use my hands and because color feels like a song I can’t stop listening to on repeat, somehow finding something new each time I approach it, attempt to capture it and create with it.
