Portfolio > Color Studies

These small canvas pieces are Color Studies generated with speed during a snow storm just outside my Philadelphia studio in January, 2016. I was worried I would be snowed in and so perhaps the resulting speed helped me to not overthink my work. I attempted to keep the palettes of each piece to a minimum of 2-4 colors, working on mixing off of the main color I chose, with the goal to practice restraint. What came of these studies reflects the transitional state of my life at that time; I had left my social work career to focus on making art and unsure about where I was headed, there came these series of paintings: a train in the dusk, the idea of green money gone and change in its place, the value of taking time in the kitchen at breakfast, while the rest of the world rushes off to the office--all of it, precious and simple.
