Paper Works
This piece was created during my art residency at Starry Night Retreat in Truth or Consequences, New Mexico in July, 2017.
The landscape in Truth or Consequences blows the mind. Using my memory of an evening soaking in a mineral bath with the Rio Grande river rushing just below me and the mountains coming alive as the stars came out, I layered acrylic over partially-dried watercolor and added glue dots to the upper half of the painting to pull away the paint and create textured stars. This is quite a thick paper painting. Every time I view this piece, I am reminded of my transport into a Ray Bradbury science fiction novel--with the sunset and then stars changing the colors of the mountain right before my eyes.
